Pastor Scott Harper: Lead Pastor
We welcome you to check out our staff page and get introduced to our excellent world-class staff. I've been married to my beautiful wife of twenty-nine years and we have four amazing children, all who are devoted to loving God. My second greatest privilege has been to serve as the lead pastor to this dynamic church.
Lisa and I love serving the Clare Assembly community. We first came to this area in November of 2009 and it has been a wonderful journey. We are excited about so many things that God is doing.
We are particularly passionate about three areas:
1. Helping people connect with Christ. Jesus is the hope of the world in a constantly changing culture. We absolutely love witnessing people place their trust in Christ. Thanks be to God that many people have become Christ-followers over the years that we have served.
2. Facilitating spiritual growth for people. Coming along side people on this journey of faith is an awesome experience. Helping people take deeper steps of faith is a huge passion of ours. God longs to work through the truth and beauty of His Word to transform lives for all eternity. The privilege to be a part of this is the best.
3. Impacting our community positively. We get very excited about seeing churches work together. As parents of four children, two of whom are Clare graduates, we believe our community is vitally important. So we model being active to the church family. Jeremiah said, "Seek the welfare of the city, for in its welfare you will have welfare."
Lisa and I are here to serve you any way that we can. We would be honored by the opportunity to get to know you better. Please do not hesitate to reach out so that we can connect!
May you have God's best blessings for your life,
Pastor Scott & Lisa Harper
Pastor Jonathan Harper : Worship, Paradox Youth Ministries & Kingdom Kids
Thanks for taking the time to visit our church website! My name is Jonathan Harper and I am married to the love of my life, Addy. We started courting in August of 2015 and got married on July 22, 2017. Addy is studying at Delta College to be a Dental Hygienist and is killing it. We renovated a house from the late 1800s, have a Basset hound named Red, and enjoy life. With both of our families living in mid-Michigan, we love our community, we love our church, and we love Jesus.
In June of 2016, after graduating from Oral Roberts University with my BA in Ministry and Leadership, I became the youth pastor at Clare Assembly. I had big shoes to fill: my former youth pastor, Dave Borowsky. However, I knew God had called me back home to present the Gospel in a new and fresh way. The students of Paradox represent a rare balance of depth and hospitality. It is not uncommon to shoot hoops and have an apologetics discussion all on the same night.
In December of 2016, I stepped into the role of Children’s Pastor. My good friend, Pastor John Greene, left a healthy and vibrant children’s ministry for me to be a part of. The kids immediately displayed a hunger to memorize scripture and make the Bible come alive. When I was in high school, I enjoyed acting in school and Fine Arts. Now, I can see how God prepared me to teach the Bible to children through my years of acting. I enjoy becoming Bible characters like David, Gideon, or Moses and making these true stories come to life! I am also immensely thankful for our Kingdom Kids Adult Volunteers. We have a great rotation of adults who love Jesus and love the kids of Clare Assembly.
In November of 2018, I also became the Worship Pastor. Pastor Dan Lake was an incredible leader and left a strong team of musicians and singers for me to run with. If you’re keeping track, that’s three different ministries I am a part of! However, I see all of these ministries connecting to each other. I now see it as my responsibility to train and raise kids, students, and adults to listen to the Holy Spirit, worship the Lord, and follow Jesus Christ for their entire life. Each week, I have the opportunity to join my church in this pursuit of Christ through music and teaching. As Psalm 100 declares, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness, come before Him with joyful song.”
Lastly, in December of 2018, I received my Masters of Divinity (MDiv) through Oral Roberts University.
That’s our story. What is yours? Addy and I would love to hear it.
In your corner,
Pastor Jonathan and Addy Harper
